The Oscars = Green Car Show

Global Green is running a green shuttle service for celebs at this Sunday's Oscars. from Reuters:
Global Green USA has lined up 30 cars to shuttle the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Davis Guggenheim, director of the Oscar-nominated documentary on global warming "An Inconvenient Truth", to the star-studded ceremony in Hollywood. The environmental group began the green limousine campaign five years ago at the Oscars to raise awareness among the tens of millions of viewers worldwide about alternative fuel cars, energy independence and solutions to global warming.
The article goes on to say that some celebs might be fighting over who gets to ride in the new Tesla Roadster, a much-anticipated electric sportscar that goes from 0-60 in 4 seconds.
Treehugger launches its Green Index in partnership with Daylife, a news aggregator. The Green Index measures the popularity of environment-related phrases in the news. Words like "Biodiesel," "Climate Change," and "Peak Oil" are shown either rising or falling. Treehugger admits that the rankings are not exactly scientific, but it is an interesting look into what environmental issues are hitting the news.
Two recent stories highlight the potential economic and political repercussions for the lack of US action against climate change. In the first, Jacques Chirac, threatens a tax on imports from non-signatories to the Kyoto Protocol. From the NYTimes.com:
But he warned that if the United States did not sign the agreements, a carbon tax across Europe on imports from nations that have not signed the Kyoto treaty could be imposed to try to force compliance. The European Union is the largest export market for American goods.
Related, President Chirac praises Kyoto as the first step toward "global governance" - an admission that should send shivers down the spine of those who would support American hegemony at any cost.
from Breitbart:
OSLO, Norway (AP) -- Former Vice President Al Gore was nominated for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his wide-reaching efforts to draw the world's attention to the dangers of global warming, a Norwegian lawmaker said Thursday. "A prerequisite for winning the Nobel Peace Prize is making a difference, and Al Gore has made a difference," Conservative Member of Parliament Boerge Brende, a former minister of environment and then of trade, told The Associated Press. [...] "Al Gore, like no other, has put climate change on the agenda. Gore uses his position to get politicians to understand, while Sheila works from the ground up," Brende said. During eight years as Bill Clinton's vice president, Gore pushed for climate measures, including for the Kyoto Treaty. Since leaving office in 2001 he has campaigned worldwide, including with his Oscar- nominated documentary on climate change called "An Inconvenient Truth."
